Typically installed at the origin of the electrical installation, these devices provide overcurrent protection through BS 1361 Type II cylindrical cartridge fuses while facilitating secure termination of incoming service conductors.

Modern HSCO assemblies incorporate combined Neutral and Earth blocks, enabling robust electrical connections and ensuring continuity of the network neutral and earthing arrangements in accordance with DNO standards. The cut-out interfaces directly with approved meter ports, providing a controlled connection point for metering equipment and associated tails.
